#101 Here’s to the Crazy Ones

Posted: September 3rd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Life | 9 Comments »

Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.

They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,
disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.

Because they change things. They invent. They imagine.
They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can
change the world, are the ones who do.

– Steve Jobs

I was visiting a friend’s house when I was young, and her mom made soup from “scratch” in the microwave. Started with water, nuked the veggies, not sure where the broth was supposed to come from, but we ate mushy veggies in water for dinner. I’ve been very suspicious of microwaves ever since. Only for nuking leftovers. My rice cooker has a steamer basket so you can steam veggies while the rice cooks.

I’m arguing against abolitionism.Obviously, it was a mistake to unleash four million blacks in America, make them citizens, and run our society on the basis of the dubious assumption that they have capacity to achieve “racial equality.”I bet you a million dollars that someone here could have come up with a better way to handle the situation.

“Korea lost the ability to protest state to state as of August 1904″Sorry, Park who was a foreign minister of Korea protested against Japanese-English alliance in October, 1905. Moreover Korea did not get the title of Takeshima in international law. Then it is quite unrelated to annexation. Thank you.

Seems to me that an Islamist government could spell serious trouble down the road. You say that it's "moderate," but perhaps that's simply the current balance of power between secular and hard-core Islamist elements, a balance which might continue shifting away from secularism.

“the Middle to Upper Paleolithic transition appears to be a cumulative process involving the acquisition of different elements of ‘behavioral modernity’ through several ‘stages of innovation'”. I’d hope most of us would have already assumed that. After all that’s how evolution usually proceeds. Or do some here believe “behavioural modernity” sprang up overnight in just some single small group?

Outstanding, David. Both the decision and the letter. You are a wise man. How about an ad in homesteading or back-to-the-land magazines? I’ll put Kay on the job… she has a good success rate in the matchmaking department.I hope that soon you’ll be sitting around a campfire having a deep conversation, and a few laughs, with your lady.
